Developments
May 15th
Minute but many developments took place when I was NOT blogging in college.
I improved a lot with Photoshop and picked up great techniques in Corel draw. Thanks to my college magazine design buddies Advaith and Mayank. One day after writing an exam I was in a very jolly mood. I couldn’t resist opening Photoshop. I started working from scratch and with my golden iPod nano in front of me. I came out with the following illustration of the iPod Nano
I stopped playing the most loved hostel multiplayer – counterstrike. It was sucking away huge amounts of my time.
I touched the 400 floor in the icytower, could survive till the 422nd floor. This made my worldwide icytower rank to A. I was the first among my icytower playing crazy friends to achieve this. The following screenshot shows the A rank and the floor 422. To go to the next rank you are supposed to go to 500th floor. 500 I think is possible. But the 2nd goal (highlighted) to reach the 400th floor without combos a little too much.
Started playing Farmville and Mafia-wars just to learn some tricks so I could post it for new players.
Well, when I was away I didn’t stop gathering information to blog about. So I could immediately start writing when I get back. Some of great such new things are waiting to get written and posted. Watch out
GTA 4 detailing
Oct 13th
Some amazing detail work by Rockstar I loved in GTA 4:
Smoke physics:
- The smoke blowing off a cigarette being smoked by a person sitting in a car doesn’t come out of the car till a window is broken or the door is open.
- Smoke densities have been given attention too, the smoke out of a big bomb, small bomb and a cigarette have densities like they are supposed to be.
Water physics:
- A big disturbance in water looks real, created using big waves with the small currents together. Tides and currents.
- Road reflection when it rains seems very real.
Miscellaneous:
- You can almost never see the same person again. Every person is different, doing different things.
- If you bump into someone using some object like umbrella, phone, coke can etc. The object is dropped. Astonishingly you can pick up objects people drop, aim them and then throw.
- Animations are not predefined they are created in real time based on physics, thanks to the rockstar advanced game engine (RAGE).
- When you hit a person with a car, a dent is left wherever the person/obstacle hits. Something worth watching is the blood splatter on the wind shield or the bonnet when you hit a person.
- When you something really hard when in a four wheeler. Niko flies forward breaking the windshield. Bouncing and leaving blood splats on the road and lowering health.
- A blast sets of a force in every direction. Depending on the distance and intensity of the blast objects fly. It is fun to see Niko flying off with ragdoll physics when a grenade is dropped beside him. Dead bodies are are also a part of the world, they follow the ragdoll physics too.
- Statue of Liberty and the Times square have been recreated with some deliberate changes.
