Find out how long your computer has been ON – Windows
Jan 11th
Windows XP:
1. Press ctrl+r to bring the run dialogue box.
2. Now type in cmd to open command prompt.
3. Without worrying about where the cursor is, just type in systeminfo.
4. Scroll the generated information to find a row containing the system uptime.
Windows vista and 7
For windows vista and seven you can simply check the uptime in the task manager.
1. Press ctrl+shift+esc to open up the task manager directly in vista and seven. (no intermediate screen). If your task manager has been disabled due to a bug attack you can use this to enable it once again.
2. Now go to the performance tab.
3. You can find the system uptime below the real time graphs.
In vista and Windows 7 the XP method works but it won’t tell you the uptime directly. That method tells you when you last switched ON your computer (the date and time). The math is left for you to be done.
Mousotron – Measure mouse stats
Aug 22nd
Wouldn’t it be great if you had a handy and independent tool to measure the total distance your mouse has ever traveled or the number of clicks it made in its life time. I really love to see such stats. Mousotron is a simple application (~3mb RAM) which makes it possible. Probably made in visual basic, it is the best freeware tool that measures clicks, right-clicks, distance traveled, instant speed,
keystrokes and what not. I experienced some bug with the keystroke measuring, it decreases sometimes automatically. Another great use of Mousotron is that it measures you system uptime, saves it and adds it up every time you restart. There you have your Total system uptime!!
There are a plenty other widgets for Google gadgets or Vista sidebar gadgets that measure you mouse statistics (Distance, clicks etc). But Google gadgets feels like something unnecessary loading up of RAM and the sidebar is like something useless blocking your view. After a few weeks of use I bet everyone feels like unloading sidebars from their desktops. Though they look good at first, but you start to realize glitches later on.
Mousotron is a independent application (not something that runs under a sidebar app). It is customizable to a great extent. Other controls like click through controls could have been added (so that it would look like a dynamic wallpaper that mesures mouse stats).
Mousotron is a must download. Minimises to system tray and helps to prevent taskbar clutter. It is free, small, takes up very less RAM in realtime and works great.
